I also was then prescribed Macrobid 50mg as a prophylactic after sex (which was usually the instigator for me to get one). In the last year I was starting to get a UTI almost one every month and a half. But as I've aged I would get them 2 nights after indulging in alcohol. Even though I'm diligent in drinking at least 64 oz water every day and up it to a min of 80oz of water the following day post drinking alcohol to rehydrate. I was miserable. After my last round of Macrobid, then Cipro and then 3 weeks later another round of Macrobid I decided that was it. No more antibiotics and that was going to be my last round of antibiotics. The D-Mannose is a supplement, and the posters were correct; it keeps the sugar molecules from sticking to your urinary tract. Avoid all sugar especially soda pops.
