## Description

desertcart.com: Primus | Classic Trail Backpacking Stove Silver, One Size : Sports & Outdoors

Review: Great Little Stove - I waited until I used the stove before reviewing. I cooked 4 meals on it and found the stove to be trouble-free and easy to use. It heats water to boiling in under 2 minutes. It lights easy (I used a lighter) with a can of Coleman fuel. The stove comes in two parts; the valve and the burner both of which fit in a nice storage bag. The stove is light and compact and easily screws together into a can of fuel; setup is less than a minute. The stove was stable; we cooked on a rock shelf in the Kanab Wilderness Area. I estimate that I used less then 1/2 of a can of fuel; sorry, there is no way of coming up with a better estimate. My friends used different high-end stoves and the Primus was cooking faster and as good (or better) then most of them. My only nit-picky negative is that the fuel inlet valve is hard to regulate due to being new.
Review: Very small and light, but boils water fast - That's all I want, to be able to boil water in my steel coffee mug. The Primus seems like a high-quality, well built little stove that packs up small. The flame is of course adjustable so I can fit the fire to the size of my steel mug and boil water quickly while using as little fuel as possible. Primus fuel is very hard to get here in the South (United States), but any propane/butane canister seems to work. I know the instructions warn: USE ONLY PRIMUS FUEL!!!! but they have to say that; their lawyers make them. The Primus lit the first time and every time, from a match. No problems, no sputtering or priming (like with a white gas stove). However, you have to pack the empty canisters out. It is a sin to leave them in the wilderness. Really. I hate seeing canisters in the middle of nowhere. When I backpack, I don't cook meals on the stove, just water that I use to rehydrate soup, hot chocolate, or make coffee or tea. This stove is more than enough for me.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I bought this product but i am not sure if i can buy only Pimus cartridge for it or any fuel cartridge will do,**
A: The EN417 canister specification and Lindal self-sealing valve are a standard adopted by manufacturers throughout the world. Because the Lindal valve is an industry standard, theoretically every brand of screw-threaded canister fuel must work on any brand of screw-threaded stove. There are legal registration requirements in each country to ensure compatibility with the standard. The basic problems are: 1) one manufacturer has no control over the quality control of another manufacturer's stove or fuel canisters, and 2) no manufacturer wants to accept any responsibility for another manufacturer's products. Especially with fuel canisters, which are a potential bomb in a worst-case scenario, company lawyers are averse to liability. So their position and message is that there are small differences (depth and height, manufacturing tolerances) in the threaded fittings on different brands of stoves and canisters. Consequently, to be on the safe side, every stove manufacturer strongly recommends using only their canisters on their stove. Some manufacturers go a step further with strong warnings such as: "Use of other gas cartridges can be dangerous." Obviously they want to avoid liability, but they also want to sell their own brand of fuel canisters. So what to do? Many backpackers have used different canisters on their stove for years without problems, and most of us do so when our brand is not available. A little experimentation quickly determines which canisters work on your stove and which ones do not. The usual indicator of canister incompatibility is no (or very low) gas pressure when you open the valve. This can sometimes be overcome by tightening the connection a little more (but be very careful not to overdo it!).

**Q: Description says it has "built in windscreen." Does it??**
A: The fins on the burner are the “built in windscreen.”

**Q: Is it OK to use in the yard in case of power outage? Will you need the foot rest / stand even for small pots?**
A: Yes, you can use it in the yard. I just used in the kitchen the other day during a power outage. I only had it on for 8 to 10 minutes to get a pot of water boiling.

**Q: Whats the thread size?**
A: I don't know the thread size, but I can tell you I've used Primus, MSR, and Coleman canisters with it. They all must have the same thread size.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic stove
*by T***M on October 11, 2018*

This should not be a back-up stove, but your main unit. This stove has never failed me, I have several of these and they all work fantastic. No, not the smallest, lightest stove on the market but not huge either. The advantage of this stove is its ability to work with wider pots, pans and skillets. No hot spots with the wide flame this stove puts out, which is a problem using the little "blow torch" stoves. This stove puts out plenty of heat to cook meals, not just boil water. Comes in a nice little bag and when broken down into the two pieces is not too big to pack. Yes it's bigger, heavier than 25grm stoves, but cooks way better too. I just plan on the space needed for it and deal with the weight. YMMV!
