If so, how well does it work?** A: I am an audiophile. This tape would not likely do much dampening because it is fairly low density. You would get better results from something like "blu tack" or one of the products sold for car audio deadening like "Dynamat Xtreme Extreme BULK 24"x12" Sheet 2 FTΒ²". **Q: Can you apply caulk overtop of this? Will it hold with the weight or would the caulk seep through?** A: I have no idea. I tried to use it as weather stripping for my front door, I was very disappointed the sticky part wouldn't hold and it was too thin. I will not buy this item again. **Q: Can this stop smoke from penetrating through the gaps in a single pane window?** A: If applied properly and you use the right size yes I think it would be able to take care of your problem although that is hard to picture by your description it does provide a good seal and the adhesion is very good I would look to the source of the smoke and eliminate that **Q: Is the Black black or dark grey?** A: Not sure if you have a typo in your question or not. But the tape is not black or grey it is clear for the most part; maybe a cloudy clear. You will not see it if used to secure rug to carpet or rug to floor. If you isi g it between to clear pieces of something then you will see it because it is not meant for that even if it would work. Good tape it is strong and performs well.
