As you test the soil ... if the reading is below 5 then it is not as moist as you might like it. If the reading is above 5 then the moisture level might be higher than you would like. I like the meter because I live in AZ and the soil is very rocky, but I am still able to get the meter to go in the ground and get a measure. I really like the meter **Q: This is quite pricey comapred to similar alternatives. Is there any warranty with this to guarantee long term reliability?** A: Sorry, I can't remember that now - I will have had mine 2 years next spring and haven't had any problems with it - I changed the battery last spring although it was working ok, as I think they said they last a year plus(?), but mine seems very reliable ## Frequently Bought Together - REOTEMP 15 Inch Garden and Compost Moisture Meter, Garden Tool Ideal for Soil, Plant, Farm and Lawn Moisture Testing - XLUX Soil Moisture Meter, Plant Water Monitor, Hygrometer Sensor for Gardening, Farming, Indoor and Outdoor Plants, No Batteries Required - Soil Moisture Meter, 4-in-1 Moisture Meter for Plants, Tester for Moist, Light,Nutrients, pH, Soil Test Kit, Great for Garden, Lawn, Farm, Indoor & Outdoor Use, No Battery Required --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.co.za/products/152725844-reotemp-garden-and-compost-moisture-meter-38-cm-stem-garden](https://www.desertcart.co.za/products/152725844-reotemp-garden-and-compost-moisture-meter-38-cm-stem-garden) --- *Product available on Desertcart South Africa* *Store origin: ZA* *Last updated: 2026-10-18*
