I add about a half cup, with an over full cup of baking soda to every load of laundry. I add this into the washing machine when there is about 6 or more inches of water before adding the clothes. (Adjust proportions based on your water softness.) But, I don't use this as a water softener. Mixed with baking soda, it becomes a color safe bleach. It is hydrogen peroxide when you convert the ingredient list. PERFECT. BUT, with the newer washing machines, it's cumbersome. Now I add it to the liquid bleach dispenser; the baking soda goes into the machine on top of the clothes. It does work this way ... but ... I like my old machine better. Same results when it comes down to it. I have ordered at least 20 bottles of this over the past 6 to 8 years.
