Sadly, these days, artificial food colors have replaced ratan jot in tandoori chicken and the traditional Kashmiri rogan josh has been butchered with the use of tomatoes. It is also known as Ratan joot, Onosma, Orchanet, Alkanna Tinctoria, Vembalam Pattai, Alkanet, vempalaṁ paṭṭāyi, vembaalam pattee, Vembalaṁ paṭṭāyi, Laljari, Vembalam pattai, Baal Jad, Buglosse Azuree, Yatilung, Laljari, Maharanga, Thavittu vembala, Dyer’s bugloss, Spanish Bugloss, Languedoc Bugloss.
