You can use dynamic mics in the studio, but typically people prefer the sound of large diaphragm condenser microphone. You just can't use most condensers as a live vocal mic, because they are too sensitive and pick up everything on stage. **Q: Is this a good mic choice for a quiet singer? (yes, years of lessons, good mic technique, instruments don't overpower. great voice, just not strong.)** A: Yes! The Audix OM5 is a really great mic for a variety of singers. My wife and I perform as a duo and each use one. My wife is also a "quiet singer" so I have to increase her gain and volume on our PA. The OM5 does not feed back even when we turn it up. We typically play through a Bose tower and the sound comes from behind us. If you have any feedback issues when you turn up the mic, just turn the mic slightly away from the speaker and try to keep your head between the mic an speaker. We also have several Shure SM58s that we use when hosting Open Mics. Both the Shure and Audix mics are well built with tight connections and have held up well. The Shures will pick up your voice from "around" the mic, but be sure to sing directly into the Audix as it is uni-directional.
