It keeps the laptop in place well, without it slipping (and my laptop is quite heavy). It fits well and comfortably on my lap, lifting the laptop just right, preventing my neck from getting sore. Two cooling fans are fixed speed but are quiet and definitely help my laptop stay cooler, provided your laptop cooling intakes are at the rear of the case. Non-slip rubber stops on top help the laptop stay stable but it needs the same on the bottom. On a wooden or laminate desktop, the stand slides around too easily.
