I'm a new woodworker and this was my first time installing drawer slides. The cabinet was unusual in that there was no bottom to reference off of in the usual way of cutting a scrap to act as a spacer under the slides (and the floor was no where near level) but with the way this jig works you can reference off just about anything within reach of the indexing foot. Once you have things aligned on your first slide you can clamp the jig in place and then extend the foot to your reference surface and lock it in place with the locking screw. Once everything is locked in and clamped down you can pre-drill holes, and insert screws as needed without a need to hold the jig in place. Clamping is not absolutely necessary but makes it easier to do other tasks and not have to worry about the jig slipping out of position. Once you have the first slide installed you can easily move the jig to the next drawer position and if it is a drawer level with the previous one you can use the foot as your alignment guide which makes it very quick to install multiple drawers in a row. The jig is well built and I have no reason to believe it won't last a very long time given it's somewhat limited use.
