It is designed to tap into your water supply line under-the-sink or to a garden hose valve. Once it is connected to water supply with above 45 psi input pressure, the system is able to purify the tap water into ultrapure water at a rate of 120 gallons per day or about 5 gallons per hour. For example, if the water quality of tap water is 300ppm, after 4th stage RO membrane filter, the TDS reading will be reduced to about 25ppm, then the 5th & 6th stage DI filters would further reduce the TDS to 5ppm to 0 ppm. The filters used in the system are, 1st stage sediment filter, 2nd & 3rd stage carbon filter, 4th stage TFC-150 RO membrane, 5th & 6th stage color changing DI filters. DI resin changes to black color when it is exhausted. Fifty sounds like a lot, but I can't see why you can't do it other than making sure it is one piece to avoid leaks. I will ask in a reef forum for you to be sure, but I would say as long as you're not trying to run the ouput tubing upstairs it should be okUPDATE: Nobody I asked has ever run more than 25 feet. Those who do let it run a few minutes before collecting water to make sure it's all "fresh". I think 50 is a lot, so maybe it's not quite that far? Why do you have such a long run? Mine is very short by design, but I could have put my RO/DI unit and my collection bucket in different places and would still not have more than 20 feet. If you could provide details I am happy to help if I can. **Q: I have water pressure of 100 will this damage the unit or just reduce its effectiveness** A: The unit came with a valve to control the pressure going into the unit **Q: Flow restrictor is shown on the waste line but none was provided in the included parts. Is it required?** A: You may want to double check your waste line, my unit came with it already installed on waste side. And yes, the flow restrictor is a must on ro systems as they create pressure throughout the membrane and maintain adequate reject and permeate flow. **Q: one of the DI filters are leaking. Has anyone else had this problem?** A: Similar problem first time removing filter canister. Wiped threads clean and lubricated threds with a very small amount of silicone lubricant. Canister hand tightened an additional full turn and did not leak. Arrived on time and no issues except one little plastic connector was broken but I think I probably broke it taking it out of the package. However, there were extra pieces in the box to replace it and if you need to get any replacement fittings, they have everything on their website. I bought a 2 way switch valve for our laundry cold water output and hooked the RO/DI system up to that.
