Another 2 days later I tried it on bare skin on my back too, and it's wonderful that way. Hope this helps. **Q: Can you remove the foam and wash the covers of the mat and pillow?** A: I just throw mine in the tub, both mat and foam together along with some liquid body soap and let it wash itself. Then I let it air dry on the side of the tub. **Q: Is the cover removable?** A: Yes, the cover is removable. There are two velco strips at one end. You can take the foam strip out and clean it too if you want. I have had the mat for two years and have never removed the cover. **Q: Can the pillow be used for your lumbar section as well?** A: Yes.
