Does not use standard code. *by P***K on November 2, 2012* I wish someone had written this before I bought this. The good: It sounds great compared to the TV speakers. It does what I wanted which was to not sit with the TV remote adjusting the volume when people were talking, for commercials, etc. The bad: It doesn't work with universal remotes. Altec Lansing used Toshiba TV codes for the remote. Even using those codes, I am unable to program my DirectTV remote to use the volume buttons on the sound bar. Fortunately, I don't need to adjust the volume often. Unfortunately, my wife sat on the remote, now even the actual remote doesn't work with it.
