## Description

Sailor 1911 Large Black GT 21K Gold Medium Point Fountain Pen - 11-2021-420 by Sailor : desertcart.co.uk: Stationery & Office Supplies

Review: Sailor 1911 L 'M' nib Lives Up to Reputation - This very well known fountain pen lives up to its' reputation for excellence. I like it very much. It fits my large hand well, and has a superb Medium nib, which is about equal in width to a Fine western nib. The nib has a pleasing amount of 'tooth', but not too much. I use Sailor Blue-Black ink, which flows beautifully in this nib. Posted and unposted both work well. My best and favourite pen. I have also the Pilot 74 with 'SM' nib, and Platinum 3776 with 'M' nib. The Pelikan M200 with 'F' nib is too small for me.
Review: No fuss pen, works out of the box. My 3rd Sailor pen with the 21K nib. - Very impressed. Pen arrived, and did a little flushing to remove any machining oil. Then filled it up with Pilot ink. It just works. It glides over the paper. I am not a "heavy" writer, and do not press on the paper. I prefer to let the nib glide over the paper and let the pen do the work. As said, this is my 3rd Sailor pen - I wanted the large size. My earlier ones were the "normal" size 1911 Pro - great for shirt pockets, but for larger hands like mine, this Large version fits better for longer writing sessions. For the prices of about ~ USD$185, it's hands down value for money, in my opinion. So comparing this to a Mont Blanc 146, is a bit unfair. They are both about the same size. The MB has better build quality and more heft, but it also cost ~ 4x more! The 1911L quality is very good and if used normally, will last a long time. My 1st Sailor Pro fountain pen was purchased in 2012, and still works like a charm. For those into cars, I describe this 1911L, like the Toyota Camry - not luxurious, does not carry a big badge, but it's reliable and just works. The MB146 on the other hands, it's like a BMW - wonderful to drive, when it's working well. If it's not working - it's a pain, and will require a trip back to the repairman. (mine had to be sent back to Germany). The MB is also "fussy" about paper and ink, need to do a good match, else it will do small skips but as I mentioned in my handwriting, it does create lots of shading, which I like. In all, cannot go wrong with the Sailor 1911L pen. I purchased the M nib.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I have some cartridges for Professional Gear fountain pen. Would they fit on this pen?**
A: Yes. Sailor uses proprietary ink cartridges and converters, and they work on any of their pens that accepts ink cartridges.

**Q: what is converter for?**
A: A converter is used for bottled ink. With this Sailor pen you have the option of using Sailor ink cartridges or using a "cartridge converter". The converter fits in the pen where a ink cartridge would otherwise fit and can be filled with bottled fountain pen ink.

**Q: Is the Sailor 1911 Fountain pen available with fine Nib ?**
A: Yes it is. In fact Sailor offers 7 different nib grinds for this pen. I don’t know if you can find them on Amazon all the time though or if ever. That will depend on the sellers and what they offer. I was only able to find it recently as of Dec. of 2022, in medium grind. But I really liked the price and figured if I want to, in future, I can send it in to what is called a nib meister and have the nib ground to a different size and/or style. So I could, for instance, get a cursive italic grind, or thinned down to a fine. Extra money spent, yes. But still cheaper on a whole, with the price of the pen here and the nib meister’s new grind, than it is to purchase elsewhere. I hope this info helped you and gave a little more insight and info that you may be able to use in future. Take care. Cheers

**Q: How large is it compare to a Sailor Realo black fountain pen? Or are they same size?**
A: Hi,Yes, the Sailor Realo 1911 Full-Size fountain pen is the same size as the Sailor 1911 Full-Size, both have a length of 5.5" capped and a weight of 23.7 grams.Hope this answers your question.Kind regards,David H.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It's not exactly like any other fountain pen
*by D***. on 7 March 2019*

Precious resin and cheap plastic look and feel a lot alike. This attractive pen is very light in weight, so much so that my perception of the black material from which the body of the pen is made is that it is thin. When I pick up a Montblanc Meisterstück 146, which is closer in size to the Sailor 1911L than is the larger MB 149 fountain pen, the feel of the MB precious resin seems different. The MB pen feels (or at least causes the impression that it is) thicker and heavier than the 1911L. Some people may prefer the lighter feel of the Sailor. Beyond the basic black body of the 1911L, there are some bits of metal trim that are plated in gold. There are small bands on the body of the pen and on the cap, and there is a larger engraved golden belt that distinguishes the cap of the pen. Precise clean lines and clear-cut detailed engraving characterize these parts. The metal of which these items are made does not add anything perceptible to the weight of the pen. It still seems light. The real distinction of this Sailor 1911L fountain pen is the 21-karat gold nib. The feel of this nib is legendary. It is smooth. Probably as smooth as any fountain pen nibs that have ever slid across paper. While I personally wish that the 1911L pen had more heft, this nib is the real star element of the entire pen. Among the pens I own, there are a few with nibs as smooth as this Sailor 1911L nib, but none is smoother; and certainly none was so smooth right out of the box. If someone wants a medium-size, light-weight, traditional looking black fountain pen that has a nib almost beyond belief in its smoothness, the Sailor 1911L should be toward, if not at, the top of that person's list. Moreover, even with a 21-karat gold nib, this pen is affordable (it's not cheap)—in fact, I would probably rank it as one of the best, if not the best, buy for a world-class fountain pen that one can find.
