These Satin silk scarves are hand woven using hundred year old Mechanical Loom that can only found in Van Phuc Silk Village, Ha Dong, Vietnam. The Van Phuc village has long been famous for the fine quality of its silk and the beauty and craftsmanship of its silk products. According to legend, a princess of the Hung King royal family introduced silk making to the area nearly 2000 years ago. The quality of "Ha Dong silk" grew to such that the village began supplying royalty and other feudal families with the highly prized material. Although the wooden handlooms have since been replaced by the clacking of weaving machinery, the villagers still follow a traditional and labor-intensive silk making process. Each household keeps stacks of mulberry-lined baskets in which they raise and care for the silkworms. When the worms mature, the cocoons are painstakingly unraveled and spun into thread which is then finely woven into the luxurious product that the area is known for. Caring for Hadong Silk. Hadong silk scarves are easy to clean and will become softer with frequent use. It is recommended to wash the scarf in cool to lukewarm water using a mild, natural soap or a gentle shampoo. Rinse until water runs clear, then wrap gently in a towel to absorb excess water. Drip dry only, away from direct sunlight. Do not wring or twist. If it needs pressing, cover the scarf first with a damp cloth and then iron.
