Highly recommended - I already own LaCie hard drives; 4gb Thunderbolt, 20gb 5Big Thunderbolt so, when I needed a portable drive for backing up photos and videos whilst on assignment, LaCie was my first choice. I’ve used this drive throughout the year with absolutely no issues. It’s quick enough, and has never left me down as a backup when out and about. The rubber protective skin is handy for some protection if you were to drop it. There’s not much else to say other than, if you need a portable external drive, you should seriously consider this. If I needed an additional drive I’d buy another one of these.

**Q: Does ‘directly ingest files’ mean you can backup an SD card without attaching it to a computer?**
A: No - it doesn't have an SD card slot - it's for backing up files from your computer

**Q: can work with Macbook 2011 ?**
A: I have a mid 2012 Mac Air and purchased a 500gb Lacie Rugged SSD with thunderbolt and USB connections. It was purchased for use with Final Cut Pro, and it works superbly. Whilst only 500gb, it serves me well with a partition formatted to MSDos Fat for use with PC's.

**Q: Is this device time machine compatible.  i want to replace my old time machine drive with this running with my imac (retina 4k, 21.5-inch, late 2015)**
A: Works fine with Time Machine on my late 2009 IMac. I’ve been using it for a few years (since my Apple time capsule died), running permanently connected and it’s been very reliable. Just make sure you buy the Rugged drive with the correct cable/ports for your IMac’s output ports (my Mac is older than yours so doesn’t have latest ports such as usb-c)

**Q: Hi, can you back up to the pro raid using a card reader (for compact flash card) or does it just work with SD cards.**
A: Sorry. I have no knowledge of the pro raid.
