Review: You Never Forget Your First - One of My Very Favorite Books - This was my very first erotica and it started me on my path of debauched reading. LOL. In all seriousness, I absolutely love this book. Doing research for her tv show, Morgan interviews Jack, aka Master J, a well known Dom, to gain information on the D/s lifestyle. The problem? Someone is stalking Morgan and has her running scared. After the perp breaks into her apartment and trashes her home, she flees California. The other problem? Jack's only reason for agreeing to Morgan's interview is as a set up. He plans to use her to get back at her fiance, Jack's former best friend who stole and seduced Jack's wife. Jack plans to seduce Morgan, make a tape of it and send it to Morgan's fiance as the ultimate revenge. Problem #3? Morgan doesn't actually have a fiance. As part of the cover she's using while she's being stalked she has her half-brother pose as her fiance while she's in danger and has to move in with him. During their first meeting at a public restaurant, someone starts shooting at Morgan and it's only Jack's expertise that gets her out of the restaurant alive. Jack's real job is bodyguard/security expert and owns his own security firm. After Morgan's brush with death at the hands of an unknown assassin, Jack takes Morgan to a cabin in the middle of the Louisiana swamp for safe keeping while his partner, Deke, tries to track down who's after Morgan. While holed up in the cabin, Jack finds out that Morgan is really a sub who has been hiding her true nature after both her ex and her mother had called her depraved (and a lot of other things). So ashamed of her thoughts that she refuses to acknowledge to Jack that she really is submissive and Jack tries to prove to her that she is. They enter into a highly erotic D/s relationship which Jack explains cannot truly work until she trusts him completely. The irony is that by the time Jack realizes that he's fallen in love with Morgan, he'd already emailed a video of his and Morgan's first sexual encounter to her 'fiance' and is so afraid of losing her that he doesn't come clean about what he did, especially since she's finally given him her trust, submitted herself to him fully, and admits that she's in love with him as well. As you can guess, nothing good comes out of the situation once Morgan finds out the extent to which he used and betrayed her. It's the only thing I didn't like about the book. That Jack demanded Morgan's trust, even knowing that he'd already betrayed it. But if he hadn't, we wouldn't have had the climax (since the killer comes for her just as Jack's betrayal is revealed) and we wouldn't have had such a heartpounding denouement. Touching, heartfelt, and erotic as hell, this book had me spellbound from the very first chapter and never let go. Loved every minute, chapter and page of this book. The characters were believable, likeable, seductive. And I look forward to seeing Jack and Morgan pop up in the other Wicked Lovers books in the series that came after this one. Amazing writing.
Review: 3.5-stars: 'Wicked Ties' by Shayla Black - Whew! Wicked Ties was one hot book, and it is exactly the type of book I needed during this crazy winter weather. This book has been on my TBR for a while, and I’m glad I finally picked it up. This is the first book in Shayla Black’s Wicked Lovers series, and after reading it, I’m definitely picking up the rest of the series. If there is one thing I love, it’s reading BDSM books like this one, and Shayla gave me a dominant that will be hard to forget, even if I had a love/hate relationship with him the whole time. First, I’m going to admit right away that I only gave this book 3.5-stars, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it. It just had some things that may have driven me crazy, which is why I gave it this rating. It’s mainly due to the main characters and how they kept secrets from one another. I’ll get into that a little bit. The heroine, Morgan, has a stalker, and the moment she meets the hero, Jack Cole, to ask him about his dominant ways for her talk show, the stalker escalates and tries to kill her. It’s up to Jack to protect her since he’s not just a Dom but also a bodyguard. However, Jack has other motives for getting close to Morgan, which have nothing to do with her talk show. He wants revenge for what his best friend did to him, and what better way to get back at him than to get with his fiancée, Morgan. The issue is, the more time he spends with her while protecting her from the stalker, the more he wants her to be a submissive because he sees those qualities in her. Not only that, but he wants her completely after he has her, and it wouldn’t be the perfect revenge to get back at his best friend if he steals his fiancée? Here’s the kicker, though: Morgan has a secret about her fiancé and she’s going to keep that from Jack until her fiancé ends up confronting Jack about Morgan. This is what drove me crazy. Jack and Morgan are keeping secrets and motives that could have been easily shared, and there wouldn’t be a real fallout. I know it makes the storyline more interesting, keeping readers on the edge of their seats, but Morgan’s secret should have been mentioned, since what she was doing was odd in the first place. Then there is Jack with his revenge. He’s a grown man still upset with what happened, and he was focused on getting even and using Morgan. I would have been the same as Morgan when finding out what he was doing with her, too. With that being said, I did like this story and was trying to figure out who was targeting Morgan because this person had a strange obsession with her. They were crossing so many lines that I would have called the police, but Morgan felt it was better to run and hide and figure out who the stalker was later. Thankfully, Jack was a protector and knew how to keep her safe, and his friend Deke also got involved and played a role in the book. A very spicy role. 😘 When it came to the BDSM in the book, Shayla brought the heat between Jack and Morgan. The whole time they were together, and he was protecting her, he was making her realize she was a sub, even though she kept telling him she wasn’t. He was teaching her the dynamics, and when she mentioned what she lacked in other relationships, he showed her what she was always craving. When the stalker was revealed, I was shocked because I thought it was someone else with how the story was going, but no, Shayla surprised me. I definitely wasn’t expecting it, which had my jaw dropping. I’m glad in the end, though that person is handled, and Morgan is safe, and she gets an HEA with Jack after they work out some things. POV: Third Person (Dual POV) Would I recommend this book? Yes. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy reading Contemporary Romance with lots of spice and a suspense storyline. If you do plan on reading this book, may I suggest having a fan handy because it’s going to bring the heat, and you’re going to need to have something to cool down with. Man oh man this book is hot sex on a platter. I have to say I am really upset at myself for not reading this series sooner. I really loved the beginning of this series. I have to say that I read book six first and while I was reading Mine To Hold I realized that all the characters knew each other and had a close relationship with one another. So I decided to look into the book and the author and that is when I found out I read book six like a moron. So I decided I needed to read the other five books to get the full impact of what was going on. In Wicked Ties we meet Morgan O'Malley who is the host of a sex talk show. She is a smart and beautiful women who is looking for someone to meet her every needs and desires. She is working on a segment on BDSM and she is going to talk to a dominant who is going to be interviewed for her next show. She worries about going to see him because she has a stalker and he is getting more and more brazen by following her where ever she goes. He sends her letters and pictures of her every move and tells her he is going to kill her because she is his and his alone. While talking to the dominant via e-mail chat the dominant tells Morgan he has to go for business and wants to meet her. She decides to meet him in Louisiana at a restaurant of her choosing. Morgan is afraid to go to Louisiana because of her stalker but once she gets there and meets the dominant she is enthralled by him. As they are talking the dominant notices something out of the corner of his eyes and shouts at Morgan to get down as someone starts shooting at Morgan. Morgan is laying underneath the dominant who she finds out his name is Jack. Jack is a body guard and ex military man so he knows how to protect people and in that moment where Morgan is getting shot at Jack decides he is going to protect Morgan. As Jack decides what to do next with Morgan he enlists the help of his partner and best friend Deke. Jack hides Morgan at his house on the bayou until he and Deke figure out who Morgan's stalker is. As Jack and Morgan spend more time together Morgan is starting to wonder if her fantasies can become reality. See Morgan secretly has fantasies and desires that she needs but she will not admit to them. But the more time she spend with Jack the dominant the more she knows he can fulfill her fantasies. But the age old question is will she be able to submit to Jack or will she hide her fantasies and move on? Plus she has to worry about the stalker. Who is her stalker? Why is he stalking her? Why does he want her dead? What will happen between her and Jack? Will she let her guard down enough for Jack to give her what she wants no what she needs?
