We tried several store products that didn’t work. Our cat had peed on carpeting at the bottom of stairs. This is what finally worked: Spray vinegar and water saturating the area until wet, not just damp. Then sprinkle Borax, don’t be stingy, just cover the area and let it sit til caked up, will turn yellow from pee. The Borax solution pulls pee and odor out of carpeting. Then, scrape off caked borax, using a wide-blade caulking spatula, then repeat until smell is gone. We did about 3 or 4 times but you have to go by door. At the end of all this, (smell gone) we used thin white cotton dish rags we bought from Walmart, like in a bunch for $8 or $9. Stood on them to soak up excess liquid. It’s quite a job but it’s the only thing we tried that worked. Store-bought products didn’t work. **Q: Safe on travertine ?** A: Yes, it works great on all natural stone and it is safe. **Q: Will previous vinegar application inhibit effectivness?** A: Add a little water to the spot and then apply the Ur-In-Control. This works best when the area remains moist. **Q: Can this be used outside on a wood deck?** A: I used it on my old parquet wood floors with only a very slight darkening of the most concentrated area. If you deck is sealed it may not permeate the wood as well, but I do not think it would damage it - sealed or not.
