The charging pad sits flat on the table, with a small LED light to one side. It is about as wide as my phone (iPhone 8 Plus), is all black, and has a no-slip rubber on-top. Charges my phone in a standard amount of time (1-2 hours). I love how slim and portable this device is, and uses a micro-usb cable for power supply. It does not overheat like other wireless charger do. However, with my iPhone 8 Plus, I have the all glass backing that slides right off this charging pad. It works just fine when I have a standard case on the phone, but the plain glass would cause the phone to slide off the pad with barely a touch (I sneezed and it fell off). So I recommend only using this if you have a case. Also, it will still charge your phone with a portable battery, just make sure the output of the battery matches the input of the charger.
