The Aston has no affect on either of these; nor, that I am aware of does it even understand volume. Keep in mind that the primary consideration is the volume of your bluetooth sound source. Every time I turn my car on the Aston powers up and connects to my iPhone. If I tap the "play" button on the Aston then my music comes through just the same as it was the last time I used it unless I have reduced deliberately the volume on my iPhone.
