Review: No Ringin Baby!! - I got these for shooting my .17hmr rifle. Aside from those disposable orange foam-rubberish earplugs we used for duck hunting, I've never really used ear plugs for shooting, stupid I know, but I hated the orange ones, they'd constantly fall out. I primarily shoot a shotgun, and the sound of a shot from one to me is like a capgun compared to this rifle. I got it years ago as a gift and I've barely used it. My primary use for it is squirrel hunting and target shooting. But the report/crack of it is so loud that just one shot gets your ears ringing immediately. Its not that it hurts my ears its just so loud it gets me extremely cautious about damaging my hearing, and you'd think I'd have the same caution when shooting my shotgun but it simply doesn't compare. I was originally going to get surefire earplugs but I kept seeing reviews that the earplug frame was painful so I decided on these instead. Well they came in today, and I put them in as soon as I opened them, and the reduction in sound was unbelievable, they weren't deafening you of course but the sound reduction was crazy. I went and loaded my rifle and took a shot, then I had to take another to make sure I wasn't crazy. I mean there was no loud crack/report at all, and so best of all my ears WERE NOT RINGING. I'll likely wear these when I'm on my lawn mower too. If I'm on it a good while I usually do come off with ringing ears. These are some nice earplugs, rubber feels good, doesn't irritate you at all. As for as adjustability, it's pretty nice, it depends on how far you shove them in. The earplugs have 3 sections that get progressively wider from the tip back so the farther you push them in, the tighter the feel, but the quieter it gets. The little rope/string connecting them is surprisingly strong for how thin it looks. I've definitely gotten my money's worth.
Review: I can't hear you... - Great product. I bought this for 2 reasons: 1. To reduce noise during air travel. 2. For hearing protection while shooting. It succeeds in both, and is a big improvement over the various solutions I had been using. While flying, I like noise protection to reduce the ambient airplane noise (not to mention the noise of chatty passengers) while I am reading. I fly a lot, but do not like using any type of electronic noise reduction for many reasons, including the restriction on using electronic devices below 10,000 feet. My solution up to this point was an expensive set of Israeli-made SilentEar earplugs that were supposedly really good, but just would not stay put in my ears despite trying several sizes. This product fits my ears *perfectly* and results in a quieter environment, so will be coming with me on all future flights. While shooting, I have been using various brands of ear muff style hearing protection, including ones from Stanley, Beretta and Browning. Besides being bulky, nearby gunfire still sounded LOUD. But with these, the sound is now tolerable, and I don't have to fill up 1/4 of my range bag with big bulky ear muffs. You get 3 sets in this package, which is nice and very good value. The only cautionary note I will add is that in each set I got, the yellow cord connecting the two ears was tied in such a tight knot that I almost could not get it apart. For a moment I actually considered *cutting* the knot, thinking that it was not part of the cord, but quickly realized that doing so would cut the cord between the 2 earpieces. You can untie the little knots - if you have patience. [Update: For some time now, they have come tied with knots that are much easier to untie, unlike the earlier version, thus no longer an issue.] I like them! Sorry, what was that you said??? UPDATE ONE YEAR LATER: It puzzles me why a few people have had such trouble with these and think they don't work. Unlike what a few others have reported, these work really well for me at the range, and in fact when I have tried wearing ear muffs over the top of these I really can't detect any further reduction in sound. For anyone who has had trouble or think they don't work, be sure that you have inserted them properly and completely. As the instructions indicate, you have to pull out on your ear lobe with one hand while inserting them into your ear with the other - you can't just push them in with one hand because they won't go in far enough to fully seal the ear canal. When properly inserted, you *will* notice the difference - a feeling that I can best describe as being "cut off" from the world. If you don't feel that, they are not inserted properly and you will NOT get anywhere close to the level of sound reduction that these can provide. Anyway, these work just great for me, and I am about to order more. UPDATE, several years later: I keep buying more, because I am concerned about my hearing, and these help a lot. If you don't do anything around noise, you won't need these, but most of us do. My latest use, which perhaps negates my original title a bit, is to wear while out on my side-by-side ATV, which is quite noisy. I keep several pairs of these in the vehicle, to wear myself, for my spouse to wear, and for guests. While they greatly suppress the noise of the ATV, my spouse and I actually *can* easily hear each other while wearing these. Seems perfect. I've seen a lot of silly comments by others here, who say that: * They are uncomfortable. True, you won't want to wear them all day. That would be true of any hearing protection. * The state of California says that they are "known to be carcinogenic." Perhaps true if you eat them, but half of the things I have purchased lately have come with such a warning. I live in the real world, not California. * They don't work. Well, they do for most people - especially if you insert them correctly.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Are they comfortable to sleep in?**
A: I bought these to protect my ears from my husband's snoring. Not only do they work well, but they are comfortable, and I don't notice them. However, the cord breaks fairly easily (you don't really need it when sleeping in them, anyway), and over time, the smallest flange will pop out. The first pair I tried lasted about 9 months. Since several come in a pack, you should be good to go. These do block out sounds really well, and are my favorites of the several types I've tried.

**Q: Would these be good ear plugs for riding my motorcycle and block wind noise? Also do they last long?**
A: Since no one else mentioned it, the cord on these earplugs amplifies the wind noise. It sounds like the wind howling outside a window but inside your head. They work fine for me inside a shop but I think it would be annoying if you used them for outside activities, especially riding.

**Q: are these good for kids?**
A: I can't think of a good reason why not if they're over about 5-6. I wouldn't think they'd be for under 5-6 minimum. They are graduated bell shaped "pellets" with a thin plastic strip/cord running from one to the other. They really do block out the noise. I always keep a pair in my purse for travel and I've used them for a number of years now for sleep. They're wonderful!

**Q: Is the storage case of good quality?**
A: Sorry this isn't the model I purchased of the Peltor ear plugs, mine was a 3 pack and no storage case

*by S***T on April 3, 2026*

These are very handy and easy to use. I must say I feel they are usable for small caliber firearm or environment noise when it’s available. Easy to carry around your neck. They are very easy to install and remove from your ears. Plus the flouresce makes them easy to find.
