This classic metal spring toy walks downstairs, alone or in pairs, and makes a slink-ity sound. First invented by mechanical engineer Richard James in 1943 during an experiment with tension coils. James accidentally dropped a spring on the floor and watched as it began to “walk.” Two years later, he introduced his walking spring toy in Gimbels Department Store, and the Slinky immediately sold out. Since its debut, over 300 million Slinkys have been sold worldwide. In 2000, this classic toy was inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame. Slinky is fun for a girl or a boy ages 5 and up. **Q: does it walk down stairs**
A: No, it does not. It seems to be quite a bit smaller in diameter than the old ones and there was not enough ength to carry it forward. Unless your stair treads are very narrow, you won't be able to get it to walk down.

**Q: how many coils does this slinky has?**
A: I counted 77 coils. Each is 2.5 inch in diameter.  When compressed it is 2.25 inches long. Not long enough to perform as the original slinky

**Q: Why is a 2 pack $56.37?**
A: Yes, I was charged 49.99 for shipping!

A: Yes, as long as the stairs are short enough. Its likely that the carpet won't be the issue as much as the length of your stairs.

Fun to play with. My kids got plastic ones from a birthday party and it brought back memories. I wanted to show them a real one. Happy I did, I fidget with it all the time now. The sound is hypnotically addictive. It’s that same metal color. It’s the original size, I know there are mini ones, this one is not mini, it’s normal. The only thing I would suggest is that you look at the ends and maybe file them down because there are a couple sharp bits from when it was cut on the assembly line.
